EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Department of Early Education and Care Lead Teacher Preschool certificate.
  • Obtain and maintain current certificate in Emergency First Aid and CPR within three (3) months of employment.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in supervision or in an administrative position preferred. (may not be necessary)
  •  A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a Preschool program setting required.
  • Computer Literacy: Word processing, Database skills, Outlook proficient.
  • Familiarity with Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s)
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or training in the following preferred: TSG, ECER’s, Massachusetts StrongStart, EEC regulations, and CLASS.
  • Strong communication, verbal, writing, effective problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a diverse workplace.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to child care issues of low income, at-risk children and families.
  • Effective and strong classroom/time management skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member.
  • A strong commitment to quality childcare programs.
  • Comfortable with observation, for professional, classroom and agency growth.
  • Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 119, Section 51A you are a mandated reporter and held to the statutory reporting requirements. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overall teaching, role modeling and functioning of the classroom and classroom staff.
  • Must continuously stoop, crawl, kneel, and bend in order to speak to children at the child’s eye level; to play with children indoors and outdoors, and to pick up toys from the floor.
  • Continuously maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips.
  • Meet with parents and establish positive and productive relationships with families.
  • Hold weekly classroom staff team meetings.
  • Communicate any questions, problems, or concerns to Center Director.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
  • Develop a relationship and maintain communication with community organizations and other external individuals and organizations of influence for the Agency and your role i.e. early intervention, public schools and Healthy Families.
  • Maintain strong relationships with each child assuring supports are in place as they become increasingly competent and independent.
  • Monitor the classroom and classroom staff to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • To work as a member of a team with others in the classroom and the program staff by problem-solving and using effective communication skills.
  • Responsible for completing all reports, documentation, and forms.
  • Maintain both daily written and verbal communication with parents/guardians, as applicable.
  • Monitor attendance and documentation as required.
  • Input all QRIS PQR data into system regularly 

COORDINATION:

  • Public relations with the community by bringing the community into the classroom.
  • Establish positive and productive relationships with families.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the classroom.
  • Encourage parents to take part in all appropriate aspects of the program.
  • Monitor ongoing progress of children through observation, portfolios and assessments using Teaching Strategies GOLD.
  • Responsible for supervising and providing direction of teaching techniques and behavior management techniques of other classroom teaching staff, as well as guidance of other auxiliary personal assigned to the classroom (volunteers, interns, foster grandparents, student teachers etc.).
  • Guidance and involvement in center activities as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Occasionally required to lift or move average weight material in the classroom.
  • Occasionally required to lift, carry and hold children 20-70 pounds.
  • Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
