King Street Movie Night

Our King Street parking lot transformed into an outdoor movie theater recently. To welcome families back to school and support our family literacy initiatives, our staff orchestrated a showing of Finding Nemo, complete with freshly popped popcorn and other treats. Following the movie, families wrote a review of the film and also received free books to enjoy at home.

Taking a break from the Governor's Office

Special thanks to Michael Knapik, who took time from his busy schedule in Governor Baker's Western Massachusetts office to pay a visit to Square One recently. Director Knapik learned all about Square One's latest programs and services and even got a "hands on" craft lesson from the children in our preschool program.

Square One helps children avoid summer learning losses, have fun in the process

SPRINGFIELD — The start of a new school year is just days away and children — ranging in age from 5 to 12 — enrolled in a Square One program aimed at preventing summer learning losses are confident and raring to start.

During a wrap-up celebration session of the summer program, held last week at the Christian Life Center on Sumner Avenue, the children sat at the feet of singer-storyteller Mary Jo Maichack who reminded them a new school year was about to begin.

You're The Mom!

Getting your kids to eat healthy doesn't have to be hard. You're The Mom is a campaign that empowers moms to take small steps to make healthy eating fun and easy for their kids.

Led by Tufts University, Square One is proud to be a part of this initiative to help combat childhood obesity. Members of our staff have been involved in the planning and execution of the campaign; and our Square One families have been instrumental in participating in this research.
