Health New England Cares

When it comes to volunteer support, Square One always seems to attract the very best! This year’s United Way Day of Caring proved nothing less than that. A team of 10 volunteers from Health New England turned out that day to paint our reception area and the hallways of our offices. Thank you, Health New England, for the much-needed facelift!

A Homerun for Square One!

The season may be over for the Boston Red Sox, but they recently hit a homerun for Square One! In celebration of their 15th Anniversary, the Red Sox Foundation performed 15 random acts of kindness. For Square One, that meant a donation of $1,500 to support our work with children and families! Thank you Red Sox Foundation!

We Have PRIDE in Our Work

Thank you to Bob Bolduc and his team at PRIDE STORES for naming Square One one of the recipients of the recent Powerball windfall! As the owner of the store that sold the winning jackpot ticket, PRIDE was awarded $50,000 by the Lottery Commission. Bob decided to donate the funds to charities throughout the region that serve children and families. Square One was fortunate to be among the 50 organizations who received $1,000 to support our work. THANK YOU, PRIDE!

Celebrating the Season

Our children have been enjoying the autumn season and all the fun that comes with PUMPKINS! Thank you to our Board member, Jeff Lomma of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce, for donating pumpkins to all of our school-age children. What fun they had decorating with you!

It Takes a Village

When it comes to ensuring that our children are positioned for success, it truly takes the efforts of our whole community. We are so proud of our longstanding partnership with Bay Path University, who provide our children with Occupational Therapy services at Square One’s Tommie Johnson Child & Family Center. Recently, Eversource awarded Bay Path a $2,500 grant to support the university’s work with Square One. Thank you, Bay Path and Eversource for believing in our children and families.

Letter from the President

Given the recent natural and manmade tragedies that we have experienced, I think about the impact on our children and how frightened and scared they must feel.  Depending on their age, they will have a different understanding of the significance this may have to their own lives.

Food for Thought

Square One is proud to be a partner of the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ Mobile Food Bank. On the second and fourth Mondays of each month, our staff distributes food outside Dakin Humane Society to members of the community.

On July 24, we distributed 4,500 pounds of food to 346 people!

Summer Fun Continues!

Our Annual Family Fun Summer Party at out King Street Family Center was a big hit, once again this year! Dozens of families turned out to enjoy music, games, snacks and prizes. Best of all, each family received free new books to take home! Special thanks to Boomer from the Springfield Thunderbirds for joining in the fun!

Thank You, Berkshire Bank!

Square One has been awarded $10,000 by Berkshire Bank in support of its “Adopt-A-Classroom” program!

"We are excited to continue our ongoing support of Square One’s Adopt-A-Classroom initiative program,” says Jim Hickson, SVP Commercial Regional President. “Berkshire Bank is committed to making a difference in the lives of local children and their families.”

Foot in the Door

What happens when like-minded organizations come together with a common purpose? SUCCESS! Just ask Jennifer DeChristopher, a current Square One Healthy Families participant who recently graduated from the Foot in the Door program. In complement to the benefits she is realizing from being part of Healthy Families, Jennifer credits Foot in the Door with giving her the motivation and support she needed to build her resume, search for a job, perfect her interview skills, and earn her National Career Readiness Certificate.
