In keeping with its mission to ensure that all parents have access to the tools and resources they need to be successful, Square One recently celebrated the completion of another session of its Healthy Families program initiative.
The graduation ceremony was held on August 16, 2016 at the Dunbar YMCA in Springfield, where 17 families celebrated their completion of the 3-year program.
Created to support first-time parents under the age of 21, Square One’s Healthy Families program is a home-based family support and coaching program that supports young, first-time parents and helps them create stable, nurturing environments for their children.
Funded by the Children’s Trust, the program matches parents with trained professionals who visit families’ homes to provide support during pregnancy and the child’s first three years of life. Home visitors teach parents about proper baby care; promote nurturing and attachment; practice effective parenting skills; and ensure parents have a solid understanding of healthy child development. The teams also counsel parents on achieving personal goals such as going back to school or securing a job.
