Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s holidays were filled with happiness and cheerful times spent with family and friends.

We are very grateful to all the donors and volunteers who gave so generously of themselves to spread holiday cheer to hundreds of our families. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Square One staff who worked hard to ensure that the children and families we serve had the opportunity to celebrate the holidays, in spite of the challenges our families are working so hard to overcome. From collecting donations of food and gifts, to preparing meals, to making deliveries, our team was a bright light in what otherwise might have been a dark time for many.

In particular, I want to recognize one of the many unsung heroes on our team – Kathy Giordano, our Transportation Director. It was recently brought to my attention that a few days before Christmas, Kathy and her partner, Brian, decided to make the holidays special for a Springfield family. They learned of a mother and son staying in one of our area’s homeless shelters who could really use a little holiday cheer. Kathy and Brian picked up the mom and her young son, Matthew, and took them on a shopping spree! Matthew was delighted to fill his cart with toys, books and clothes!

I am humbled and fortunate to surround myself with such kind, caring, people, like Kathy, who give unselfishly of themselves each and every day to ensure that our children and families have the tools they need to build a bright future.

Thank you for all you do to make our community a happier, stronger place to live, work and play.

Sincerely,

Joan Kagan
